You are allowed

I have battled "the you are not allowed" saying for years. In the last 50 years rules in Art have been debunked. I love that word "debunk" and the dictionary says it means to expose the pretensions or falseness of things. Now in coming 2020 we need not be intimidated by the jargon of "high art" or the rules that taught us preconceived ideals that we have to live up too in doing our Art. Instead, the "you are allowed" movement has taken hold. Art is no longer too high for me to understand and it needn't be mysterious.
The old art jargon need not be holding us back from expressing ourselves. I say bust the jargon which is a specialized language concerned with a particular subject, culture or profession and sometimes it is unintelligible meaningless gibberish. Jargon can get you hung up and stop the flow of ideas and it can be convoluted syntax and is often vague in meaning.
So what do we do? Open our painting box and our paper tablet. Put a pencil to the page and draw what you are thinking about. Simple does it and you are allowed to colour outside the lines and bring your creation beyond the edges and delight in the effects and marks you make.
