How do we judge?

How do we judge whether we have artistic talent? What is talent anyway? The dictionary says the word "talent" means, that we may have a special gift or ability. Don't you always hear people say he or she has a special ability to use?

I contend that these ideas are over rated. I believe anyone can make marks on paper, anyone can pick their favourite colour, anyone can chose to scribble or sketch or put colours side by side. Why am I writing about this?

I have long held ideas that can help anyone loose themselves in the arts. All you have to do is jumpstart a whole project to help you acquire peace of mind or relaxation and you may even feel accomplishment.

When parents use "the distraction method" with their children what happens? Kids can be happy and content for quite awhile with paper and crayons, right?

Let's do it too. We go to the Dollar store or the Art Store or Craft store, pick our paper. The kind or size doesn't really matter too much. Don't go small though, I think medium to large size is good because you do not want to "squeeze" into the small stuff. The idea is to keep yourself busy for at least one hour and we want to have space to do our shapes.

Shapes, curves, circles, lines that are criss-crossing the paper from one side to the other, go right to the edges. Sound fun? (do not make your marks too close together this time).

I drew this a few years ago when I was short of ideas

We don't need special ability to do this do we? Mix or pour a few colours of Acrylic paint on an old plate and using a soft brush fill in the spaces.

These are your spaces now. You can use a brush easily, and just remember to wash it out often between colours. Enjoy, let colours dry and voila!!! Just one reminder did you fill each space everywhere with colour? Leave nothing blank.

If you ever do this I would love your feedback. Did you like it? What were your thoughts while you worked on this? Did it occupy you?
